Hello There

Hello there %$firstname$%,

It’s been all go, as they say, here at Sparkle Central. My 2nd book is now fully edited and I’m working with a new book designer (having been ‘let go’ by the first ones as I was too picky) << yup, I am and have very clear ideas of what I want. They were great and just didn’t get the energy and look and feel of what I want my book to represent. It’s so important to me. The phrase “Never judge a book by its cover” is the opposite of what actually happens. Like the outfit you wear, the cover and design has a huge influence on the book’s success so I will definitely be picky.

It’s easy to apologise and put up with things for fear of making a fuss. Or is it %$firstname$%? There are certain things to really put your foot down about and, for me, this is one of them. I truly believe in being a ‘good leaver’ when moving on from work, relationships, situations and so I sent the company some wine to thank them for the work so far and have gone on my merry way.

Recently, I was honoured to lead a session on Be More Assertive at the We Are Future Leaders Conference in London and supporting friend and colleague Vanessa Vallely, founder of network hub WeAreTheCity (here in the grey) was such a pleasure. We’re pictured here with Maggie Semple (in the pink) whose business Semple, designed and made all our dresses (me in the blue!). It’s been a really value-add investment having a tailor-made dress made for me. It fits in all the right places and is comfortable to speak in – I move about and wave my arms here and there so it’s key.

You can think “oh, it’s not necessary and too expensive” but read more about Maggie’s designs below. My Semple dress was an investment which has paid me back many times. Just like me %$firstname$%, you’re worth it when it comes to you feeling strong and confident, smart and feminine. Key attributes to showing up and progressing at work.

Thank you for taking the time to read this eZine as I’m sure you have so much vying for your attention. I hope the ideas and suggestions help you reflect and to show up, sparkle and be heard even more at work.

Warm and ever-sparkly wishes %$firstname$%,

Now it’s finished, here comes the design part….

As I’ve been reviewing and editing my book I’ve experienced this sense of surprise as I don’t remember writing certain things I’ve written! The book focusses on a continuous Career Success Cycle which supports progress for ambitious career women and I’m so excited to bring it to life for you! I wish I’d had this guide myself, back in the day of my own corporate career.

It can be lonely and frustrating trying to work out your best moves and strategies by yourself. My new book is designed to be a torchlight to guide you.

The Official Book Launch Party in London is booked and confirmed for the evening of

Thursday 4th October I’d LOVE you to be there- just jot the date for now and it will be in London, in the City.

The Launch Party venue is so cool too. We finalised it this week and it makes me squeal with excitement – only clue I can give you at the moment is “it’s high in the sky” and it involves a circle.

Like everything, you get out what you put in and I’ve poured my experience, client’s stories, strategies and inspirations into this book about continual, strategic career success for women. Stay tuned!

“Kay White’s new book is an inspirational blueprint on how to strategically move through your career with grace, savvy, and discipline. Her principles combined with real life stories pack a powerful 1-2 punch. Quite simply, she is a Firestarter and her book will ignite, fuel and accelerate the careers of corporate women no matter where they live or what stage they’re at. Thank you, Kay, for sharing your wisdom so generously.”

How To Be A Good Leaver

Be grateful (and don’t burn your bridges)

“Don’t burn bridges. The person you throw under the bus today could be driving it tomorrow.” ~ Glenn Shepard

Whatever your reason for moving on, there’s always something to be grateful and gracious about. Even if you’re leaving because you can’t stand another moment longer with your team or doing what you’re doing, you can still be objective as you leave. You will have learned so many lessons and been exposed to all sorts of people and experiences which will have taught you something – even if it’s that you never want to do that again.

In my own corporate role, I lost track of how many people left to go to the competition, full of anticipation for the new and, at times, sarcasm of the old. Then, the situation changed. The company you leave buys or merges with the company you went to. The boss you left to get away from joins the company you joined. The team you didn’t want to work with any more are brought into your company. Like magic, here you are again. I’ve seen all these things happen and remember how uncomfortable they were for those who burnt their bridges.

My suggestion is to do your absolute best to look for the positives in what you’ve experienced where you are and to seek to be objective as you leave. Prepare a few notes to take to discussions you might have to keep you as positive and clear as you can be.

When you’re talking about what you’re going to do and why, remember you never know where you’ll meet again and when or if you’ll need the connection again. That’s strategic as well as energetically strong and you want to be a ‘good leaver’ as you set off.

Who knows when, and where, you’ll meet again?

Savvy Style & Sparkle Soundbite

A dress isn’t just ‘a dress’

When something is made for you and made really well in a colour and cut which really suits you, you know the difference. So does everyone else. If you’re tempted to invest in a ‘Power’ dress or outfit, I want to recommend you look at having something made – or certainly altered – to fit you and your shape.

The dress I had made by Maggie Semple’s firm (see above and here) for speaking and hosting Events has paid me pack is so many ways. How I feel, the perception of me and I have been stopped on the train and in the street and asked about it!

Have a look at Maggie Semple here and if you get in touch, do say I recommended you so you’ll have extra special care and attention. You’re worth investing in, especially when you want to show up and sparkle at work and for where you’re going in your career.
