Hello There

Hello there %$firstname$%,

Well, it’s been a twisty turny old time here at Sparkle Central in the UK. I’ve had the huge energetic rush of completing the writing of my 2nd book (see below) and it kind of surprised me. I wrote regularly and broke it down and found that it was nearly finished long before I was aiming for. Advocating this for my clients, I had to drink my own medicine and work consistently but focussed on the smaller steps.

As well as the high of completing my book, we’ve had a few lows or surprises within our friends and family circles with a few friends splitting up, announcing they’re moving further afield and others who are ill – one terminally. It’s a time for reflection and gratitude and as we know, nothing stays the same. The sands shift around us and for us all the time and for me I recognise the shift I’m experiencing myself. Having pressed “Pause” on my annual 3-day Live Event it’s freed me to do so many other things I’d lost sight of or not allowed myself to make time for. Lunching with friends, going to conferences and networking meetings and looking at and researching what I want to do next, now. Stay tuned – I have announcements…

For now though %$firstname$%, do take the time to consider all the change around you – who you want to thank for just being there, who you miss because they’re not and who you know is having a tough time and you just send them a note or a quick call, because you can.

Snowy and I took off this long weekend to the seaside for some much needed R&R and we hardly saw anyone socially – it was fabulous to be quiet and just walk our hounds and hang out together. I asked Snowy what the best bit of our 4-day weekend was and he said “having no plans and loads of time to have no plans in”. Enough said!

Thank you for taking the time to read this eZine as I’m sure you have so much vying for your attention. I hope the ideas and suggestions help you reflect and to show up, sparkle and be heard even more at work.

Warm and ever-sparkly wishes %$firstname$%,

I just completed writing my 2nd book

(Sample from a Principle below for you)

I’ve already booked the Launch Party in London for the evening of Thursday 4th October is the Launch Party for my 2nd book and we already have the venue booked and are starting arranging the logistics for it. I’d LOVE you to be there- just jot the date for now!

The Launch Party venue is so cool too. We finalised it this week and it makes me squeal with excitement – only clue I can give you at the moment is “it’s high in the sky”.

I actually finished writing the book last weekend. The relief, joy and shock merged at the same time. It crept up on me %$firstname$%. I thought I had more to do than I actually did and it was an easy, relaxed and precious process.

Like everything, you get out what you put in and I’ve poured my experience, client’s stories, strategies and inspirations into this book about continual, strategic career success for women. Stay tuned!

Research & Be Curious

Cast Your Net W-i-d-e

Research is formalised curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose.” ~ Zora Heale Hurston

It does help, of course, if you know what you’re looking for. In any situation – from a shop to a dating site, from a holiday to a car; the more specific you can be about what you do – and what you don’t – want, the easier it is to hone in on.

Let’s say you’ve decided it’s time to branch out, to find a new role or a new industry – you know it’s time.

When you know the part of the business or industry that you want to focus on, the easier it is for others to help you. If you, for example, know that you want to work for ABC Banking Company because you see how well they’re doing in the press; you know from your colleague that they’re recruiting and they have a salary scale that is attractive, then I recommend focusing on that company like a laser beam.

Read up about them in the press, cross-reference your network on LinkedIn, focus on them via recruiters and speak to friends and colleagues and let them know you want to find a way in.

When you focus like this based on what you sense or know, you start to do two things quickly. First, you become more of an expert in that company and what they stand for, who’s who in the zoo, and what their results look like. These days so much information is available on the internet that there’s no excuse to say you don’t know anyone. We are all one or two clicks away from information or introductions; if we search or ask for it.

Second, you start to notice things, which refer to that company or industry or you start to attract conversations, which involve them. In the Law of Attraction premise, what you focus on expands and, just as when you decide to buy, for example, a Black Audi TT, you start to notice them more than ever before. Your attention is tuned towards seeing them. The same happens when you focus on a company or an industry.

If you don’t have a clue which company or you don’t necessarily know which industry you want to direct your attention to, you can still hone in on some of the details which will support your research.

Researching and profiling something is what we do naturally in other areas of our lives. When we’re thinking of going to a certain location for a holiday, we cross-reference the hotels and the recommendations. We use recognised feedback sites like TripAdvisor™ to find out what others think or have experienced. It’s just the same for your career. It’s just that it’s so much more important.

Adrianna. H. is a Project Manager in a global energy company. She took part in my small group mentorship ‘Present & Express Your Best, Most Valuable Self in Business’ as she was struggling to be recognised and rewarded at work:

“Kay really delivers on what it says on the tin! Her ability to assimilate information about people and almost provide a diagnostic within one call is truly phenomenal.

There are three R’s that I would use to describe the content of our mentorship alone:

Relevant Always current and cutting edge, Kay incorporates up to date examples, references, people and thought leadership to help build immediate understanding to her concepts.

Rich Her style is absolute class, and her ability to pierce through the surface of her cohorts was at times quite scary. Kay provided some in depth food for thought, asking us to question and confront some of (mine at least) the deepest fears I have carried with me since I started my career. I truly feel transformed without them and it shows in my results day-to-day.

Resonate Time and time again, Kay’s words pop into my mind when I need them. It’s like I have been hypnotised into believing in my own superpowers now – thank you!”

Give Yourself A Break

We often underestimate how far we’ve come in all the day-to-day rushing around ‘doing’. I’m much more mindful these days of where I am as opposed to where I was. It guides me and keeps me grounded in what I’ve achieved rather than always looking for the next ‘goal’. What about you %$firstname$%? Do you notice and acknowledge how far you’ve come? What you’ve achieved and how much you’ve evolved?

Let me share a little bit of ‘memory lane’ with you. I launched my very first eZine in October 2010, It was a bit clunky and certainly less glittery and yet, as I look at it, it was still ‘good to go’. I took a leap long before I was ready and and now, 8 years on and hundreds of issues later, I realise how far I’ve come, both personally and professionally.

I made a commitment to show up and share with you every-other week. What are you committing to without faltering or questioning yourself too much %$firstname$%?

Zip It!

Do you ever struggle with a zipper on either a handbag, purse or – in fact – any type of zipper? Stay with me, I know it may sound as if I’m planting a double-entendre suggestion around stuck zippers but, I am!

I once took a bag back to a rather smart shop because the dratted zipper kept getting stuck. The assistant just took a simple pencil from the drawer of her desk and, whilst chatting with me, moved the lead on the pencil over all the teeth of the zipper a few times. She sharpened the pencil again and did it some more.

Bingo! Shazam! It worked a treat and the bag zip just opened with ease. I was stunned.

Always one for liking small, subtle and simple changes to make things easier day-to-day, this one’s for you.
