Instead of the perfunctory “Hi, how are you?” question (which drives me nuts and I do my best to avoid answering) I always recommend containing the question by just asking “Hi, how are you today?”
It’s such a different energy. You actually sound interested and the response you get is likely to be more interesting too.
Rather than the “Fine thanks, how are you?” if you even get that. So many people are just programmed to say “Hi how are you?” and virtually don’t miss a beat to wait for your response anyway.
So. How are you today?
It’s much easier to respond to that rather than to think of all the things you might include or leave out with “How are you?” – especially if you, like me, notice how it’s something to say rather than a heartfelt, genuine enquiry.
Short and sweet from me today.
Containing my response to the contained question would be to tell you “Lots happening today and pacing myself to make it happen!”
