Oh my goodness, if ever there was some advice to share with you it’s this.
Get Someone In (GSI)
Rather than try to know everything, do everything, sort everything – GSI.
When i reflect on the 19 years of all the different strands of creating and running my business PLUS running a home, caring for our hounds (and that’s just my little zone of responsibility – I’m not a Mum!) – I would have self-combusted if I hadn’t Got Someone In. 😵💫
And that’s not just some one…it’s a multitude of support, expertise and input.
- It’s easy to say that you can do it all and figure it all out by yourself.
- It’s easy to say you haven’t got time to find/train someone
- It’s also easy to assume you can’t afford help or support – it’s a false economy and you can end up ‘going under’ before you’ve got going…

What I’ve learned is that freeing myself to focus on what I’m good at and able to do well AND that which generates income, enables me to to GSI for the things I’m hopeless at or hate to do which suck too much precious time…a few of my business examples
- Bookkeeper
- Accountant
- Branding
- Admin organising
- Event planning/execution
- AV
A client of mine was telling me how she was involved in everything in her start up business. Building something takes that level of input and commitment and it’s understandable at first, but not for long.
She will self-combust💥 AND ironically, we agreed, be judged for not divesting herself of non-profit/income generating work.

Personally I believe men are better at this. They don’t try to take it all on and are always on the look out for (often a woman) who’s prepared to step in and take things off their plate.
Interestingly, a client (male) originally involved in a start up had to have things forcibly removed from his remit!
His Board could see his core work was scattered and his thinking and focus was becoming so too.
Buildings, branding, staffing which were all core at the start were no longer supposed to be in his remit.
Get Someone In was an order rather than an advice and he went on to thrive as a result of letting go of having to do it all…but it was a struggle at first!
Or in someone else’s words…

Maybe it’s time for you and I to huddle and discuss on the phone where you might be missing opportunities for growth and GSI/letting go at work? Here’s a link for the 7 spots I’ve made available for an Always Your Move discussion… Go on, I dare you – once they’re gone, they’re gone!
